A large crowd including top all time Israeli athletes and coaches have arrived yesterday to the Mayumana House in Jaffa to pay tribute to the Paralympics athletes who represented Israel in 12 Paralympics Games and to the disabled athletes that stood out in the past ten years.The senior disabled athletes have started their sporting career in Rome 1960 and past through Tokyo, Germany and Holland.
Their great achievements have brought them to Big Ben in Great Britain and to the Liberty Statue in the USA. They managed to return from each tournament with medals.
83 gold medals and many more silver and bronze medals were received by our great Paralympics athletes, which took part in 12 Paralympics Games from the year 1960 till 2004. This is by far one of the great achievements of sports in Israel.
This great achievement was done by athletes with many different disabilities, athletes that managed to overcome their physical limitations and with great will power and determination brought a lot of respect to Israel.
Honor shields were given to the disabled athletes by top all time Israeli athletes such as; Eyal Berkivich, Tal Broudi, Dror Kashtan, Imanuel Shefer, Yakov Shahar, Sharon Druker, and Ilana Romano, the representative of the 11 deceased athletes from Munich.
The night opened with the blessing of the chairman Danny Ben Abu.
Danny Ben Abu, disabled himself, has started his activity in ISAD (Israel Sports Association for the Disabled) after the Paralympics Games in Athens 2004. In the past four years Danny has managed to recruit resources for the disabled athletes. During his leadership, ISAD's stand in the community has grown stronger.
